Current project , a 1/24 scale KOBA low loader, circa 1955.

KOBA ?  knock off back axle, don't know if they had these things in the States but they were reasonably common in the UK in the middle of last century before the advent of detachable goose-neck types.

Overview

some detail shots

And few shots of what it may look loaded

Loading was done by removing rear wheels, etc  ....although reading stories by guys who used these units if the they were moving a crawler or a crane with tracks these were loaded "over the the side"  as removing the wheels and especially getting them back on--- was a pain in the .....

this is how it should be done

Painting will follow  ;)

Satisfactory. Keep posting. -- Russ

I don't think that those planks would support the weight of the roller . They're quite heavy , don'tya know !

Very Nice, are the wheels from KFS ?

No wonder rear loading ramps were invented, what an absolute pain it would have been to get the wheels back on.

Hi Gordon,

The COBALT low loader is an interesting model.
I would however like to know more about the origins of the 1:24 model.
In any case, it seems to me very well done.

Give me a break it is only an example, In real life think they used heavy duty ramps that fitted over the chassis extension . Or they could just have used some bricks ;)

Greenie

no they are from here http://www.mgmouldings.co.uk/wheel_selection.htm, think they are the 19.5" rims. They will be changed as for a start the M & G tyres are radial ones and they should be cross-plies(bias ply) which will give a taller tyre , higher sidewalls and narrower tread ...... and the wheel itself needs altered to change the offset. But nobody makes these things so going to have to sort out myself .

Helmut

Thank you, considering the superb work you show us I am a bit embarrassed that you are even looking at my bits of plastic!
As I have not been able to track down any drawings / plans for these trailers it is based on pictures from here
http://www.24thscalemodeltruckforum.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=3323.0 and on the transport regulations for the time period for overall width and length.
Can only really be described as a freelance prototype

Nice to see it break ground here Gordon! I love the roller but that trailer needs something bigger....!

As Helmut has found, the 24th scale forum only shows a limited amount of areas to non-members but it is free to join.... ;D
Andrew

If it has wheels, I'll have a look!

Helmut

Have sent you a PM.

Andrew

You are of course right , that roller is only a "pavement" size one but it is the only ,sort of finished one I had to hand ;D

Of course if you are willing to complete that famous RB 10 build that might look OK on it  ;)

Excellent build.
We have those over here, some still in use.
Very clean fabrication.
My only concern is the coarseness of the gears.
May be some 32 or 48 pitch gears for r/c cars?

Hi Marty,

Been looking at those gears myself  :(

Your right , they are going to have to go , thought they might work but just needed someone to tell me the truth!

You guys are right about the gears ... but all the styrene fabrication is BEAUTIFUL!  -- Dallas
