Then switch to acetone or lacquer thinner. Use a very small container, lots of ventilation and small brushes.  One of the tricks the people in my cabinet shop would do to a new employee was to give them a Styrofoam coffee cup and send them to the finish room for some lacquer thinner with the expected result.

I have tried the Slaters Mek But again the new version evaporates rapid purchased it 28 days ago and used it very little and the bottles empty !!!! and at £6:64 a 50ml bottle no joke ( minimum order £10:00 + £4:25 postage) its beyond a joke and yes I do put the top back straight away even tried a cork ! Tamiya cost on average £5:00 a 40ml bottle

Barney, I share your curiosity. For a long time I just used Testors Liquid Cement, but found that over time it 'went off'. Even though there was still liquid in the bottle, it no longer welded styrene. It was almost like water.

I got a bottle of Tamiya Extra Thin Quick Setting Cement

I was warned it evaporates very quickly. It does. I use a separate fine brush to apply it because if I used the brush in the cap (The bottle's brush does have a nice fine tip), the solvent would often evaporate before I could get the brush from the bottle to the model.

I use horse hide gluse on my furniture, especially chairs. Easy to release if a repair is needed. I also use it on complicated glue ups for its extended time before it hardens.

Not sure what Barney is gluing but for styrene I use PVC cleaner. It's clear but does have an odor. Don't bother me.
