Kim's ramshackle and interesting details that fill his dioramas inspired me to add a little item to the coal silo scene on my layout.

The layout is set in the mid 1950s and the coal company, having reluctantly seen the
light, recently added heating oil to its business.
 
Because there is no room for an oil storage tank and because the owners are frugal Vermont Yankees,
they cobbled together a pump, protected by a minimal roof, to pump oil directly from a tank car into their oil delivery truck.

The pump is a small motor from an ancient Revell sand and pump house kit. The pump is a piece of sprue. The roof is a scrap of Campbell's corrugated aluminum that was weathered by soaking it in chlorine bleach for a couple days. The hoses are wire insulation.

That corner of your layout keeps getting busier. -- Russ
