Howdy Compadre and hello from France,

enclosed some photos of my last work on the new Bachmann Mallet.
I make this little work of weathering for my Belgium friend Guy J Tyteca !
Before giving me his mallet, Guy made lettering, but I think after much Ricard, (French pastis), not very right all that!!!
I used Humbrol black and grey, painted with airbrush, and pigment with alcohol for shadows and light rust!
Added an old slope tender from REA, tools box and sparks arrestor!

Lloyd, the photos suggest a lot of contrast between the lighter and darker shades. If that is how the model actually looks when you see it outdoors, you might consider toning down all the weathering with a light overspray of black. Other than that the model exhibits restraint and looks good. -- Russ

I agree with Russ. The grey is a bit too extreme...even if this engine were 50 years old and abandoned, it would retain muck more black.  The other thing you may want to consider is leaving more areas a satin finish. These locos rarely weatered to a completely matte finish. Logging locos of this size (and cost) were usually maintained, and were often rubbed down/cleaned. Engineers took pride in their locos, and often used their oily rags to clean them. Also a bit moir oil and oil/steam discoloring/staining on the cylinders, side-rods, drivers.

And as much as I hate to say it, .....the tender needs to go away......I have never seen this combination with a ST Mallet......and all except for one of the regular (non-ST) logging Mallets that I have seen, used square tenders.

Hello Russ and Marc,

Of course, I am entirely of agreement with you, unfortunately the photos have too much contrast, and does not have the true color of the loco!
I will gloss the loco, to remove the aspect too matt!
And I will try to make better photos! Not easy with a pocket camera !

About the tender, it is on request of my friend Guy, to resemble a little the loco number 111 of Rayonier in standard gauge!
Me I prefer the loco, without  tender!
And this old REA tender is very little !

Other photo, on my indoor layout !
I tried to remove the matte finish, glossed with a large soft brush!
It is better but I am not completely satisfied with the photo

I await your opinion to make of another improvement!

   you have made a good start.
   Now you can start weathering the details and get the subtle contrast that can make it realy outstanding.

Jacq is right. The improvement is very evident, whether because of how you shot the photo or how you improved the finish. Maybe a few subtle modifications and additions will make it even better. -- Russ

Not easy all that!

Well, after some modification of painting and weathering, here what you can see .....
Shoot photo outside with a great sun!
all the comments is the welcome, it is a good track to still progress!
