3d scanners

Not having any experience in 3d scanners, I have to admit, this is a tempting price range for me.

Right now, my main interest would be using this to scan objects for the purposes of measurements.  In other words, I'd scan whatever I'm interested in modeling, import that into Sketchup, and use it as a starting point for 3d modeling.  I would not expect to be able to scan something, and print it as-is.  I would be trying to use it on freight car appliances mostly.

Does anyone have opinions, advice, or experience they'd be willing to share on such a subject?

During a narrow-gauge exhibition in Stadtoldendorf (Germany) a dealer offered a scanning service recently.
The printed parts were completely convincing. With the naked eye, no steps can be seen - in sharp side light with Macro function, you can sense levels. As Kalle (the dealer) says, he has experimented a lot in recent years. He can produce with special plastic mixtures super surfaces. Even flexible rubber-like mud flaps for trucks can be printed out.

Hello,

also with me there is something new, namely me in small.


Now I am thanks to scan from Kalle even three on the model.


Only with the scan I should have made yet a little smaller, because so I somehow not yet fit correctly into the locomotive. If I remember correctly, I really do not really fit into the locomotive, but rather pinch more.

The scanner camera has problems with bright sunlight. We had the best results in the exhibition hall with room lighting.

Russ, as model maker I have several projects at the same time and it can be not wrong in several places at the same time to be.

Bill only the two black pieces have arisen after 3D of scans. The figure in the middle is pure manual work and even modulated by me.
