The heading on this topic says Fires around LA , started by 1-32. That was a bit irresponsible of you , Kim.

Hope everyone in the area is safe .

I am about 25 miles from the Eaton fire that devastated Altadena. My friends sister lost her house there. Marc Ruesser came very close to losing his house, but was spared. Overall, unimaginable destruction.

I used to live in Westlake Village years ago. I just learned that residents in Calabasas and Westlake Villiage have been asked to evacuate.

We have been out of touch for the past couple of days: No electricity, no landline, no Internet, and under an ongoing evacuation warning. The Santa Ana winds are very strong, erratic, and dry. Today an arsonist started a new fire about eight miles away and the wind is blowing it in our direction. We have packed our cars and will grab the cats and run if necessary. Our electricity came back on about four hours ago but we don't know how long we'll have it. The reason for that is to prevent neglected power lines or idiots using electric devices from starting yet another fire.

Some of you may remember that in 2019 I had to evacuate for four days. My neighbors and I are pretty fed up with the ongoing drought and constant threat of horrible fires. I long ago gave up the idea of ever saving my models and often wonder why I bother to build them under the circumstances. (I've been working on a new one for the past couple of months.)

I'll check in whenever possible but anything is possible over the next week.

We are being affected so much now from what man has done in the past, those terrible fires (glad you're okay Russ), the cold and snow in the eastern States, the worst flooding for decades here in the UK Midlands. Apart from Trump what's going to be thrown at us next!

Promise everything, deliver nothing, tax us to high heaven.
Mind you they probably have the same woes in the US.
Stop the world, I want to get off!

I know that there will be a lot of finger pointing it always happens, opportunists tend to get in the way of very real tragedy.
Again the welfare of Southern California is the most important.

While I long ago concluded the people in California's state and local governments are idiots, the same kind of people run every state and every country in the world. That is why I formulated Reinberg's Third Law: Anyone who wants to go into politics should be prohibited from doing so. The corollary is my Fourth Law: The pigs always take over the barnyard.

Les and many others understand what effect that has had on our planet yet we keep voting for the same vermin!

I'm glad you're still safe, Russ. I hope and pray the winds die down soon!

We've been lucky so far here in Sandy Eggo. The winds never got as strong as they'd predicted.

I am so glad that all our Californian community members are safe. That is a relief. I have friends who lost their house and others who are evacuated. This is really bad and according to my wife who grew up in Malibu, the worst she has seen.

The fire is about 7 miles from us, the wind is blowing it toward us, and the electric company will shut off our power soon. That means no Internet via computer and, of course, limited use of the Internet by smartphone. I'll be back when things calm down. -- Russ

Yesterday's warnings turned out to be a false alarm; the power remained on and there was no immediate threat of fire. Today (Bill is correct) the winds have picked up and are blowing directly at us. If they remain moderate, and if no idiot starts another fire nearby, we should continue to have electricity. Although things could change within an hour, today I can't even see any smoke in the sky; it's crystal clear! Let's hope things stay safe and stable. -- Russ

Stay Safe Russ. We had a massive forest fire last year that stopped a half kilometer from our doorstep after moving 20km in 12 hours towards us.  Scariest thing we have ever encountered. Sending wishes of calm air and wet weather.

I experienced the same thing six years ago, Darryl, right down to the fire stopping half a kilometer from our house after traveling more than 20 km in less than 12 hours. I know exactly how frightened you were. And, yes, a little rain might be nice.

The winds have died down and the fire fighters are trying to contain all fires before more wind arrives Monday or Tuesday. If things remain more or less normal, Southern California's nightmare could be over by the middle of next week. I've gone back to work on the model I was building.

I'm building a small HO depot I designed. The scale is much too small for my aging eyes and hands but I have very limited space for storage or display. I have no inspiration for new music so the last album I released was three years ago: Crosstown Collaboration. If you want it, send me a note. -- Russ
