That will certainly be another interesting thing. I'm looking forward to it.

Awesome!
This is a build I'm looking forward to seeing as well

Nice work!
Up to your usual high standards. -- Russ
I like how you did the rounded corners. Hadn't seen that before.
What kind of glue did you use to laminate the styrene sheet onto the wood block?
Brilliant craftmanship as always!
Very nice and should not get any bother from the rivet counters
Barney
That's a lot of rivets. They drive me mad, can only take a few at a time ( between a glass of wine or two). It's looking very impressive, very neat.
Thanks guys for your comments. Ray I don't laminate the styrene to the wood core, on the small tank I polled one .010 styrene sheet around the core and cemented the two ends (one cement joint.) The big tank I used two .010 styrene sheets taped them to the form and placed in hot water. Poll the two sheets around the core and cemented the four ends (two cement joints). Before adding the styrene sheets to the sides I glue on .040 styrene sheet on the top and .125 basswood on the bottom rounding off the corners matching the core. The styrene top to the side also cemented. The wood bottom to the sides CA to the joint, keeping the glue off the styrene face.
Cement...Tamiya Extra Thin Cement.
Glue...CA and epoxy.
Gordon Birrell
It's unbelievable what you can do with styrene sheets, a lot of skill and and a lot of patience.
Bernhard
Thanks guys for your comments. Here's three photos of the boiler with the smoke stack, steam dome, Smoke box front, fire box door and ash clean out door. ( the stack needs more detail)

Are you missing a rivet at the inside upper left, where the radius meets the vertical? -- Russ
Great stuff with mind blowing rivets - what make are the rivets Im Sure I have read it somewhere but can not find the article

You're a cruel man, Russ. Go stand you know where!
Russ... a missing rivet is best to replace before painting, you can't add a rivet after painting without making a mess. Barney The small rivets on the water tanks are Grandt Line .043 diameter round rivets #154 ( Grandt Line castings are not available). Tichy Train Group has most of Grandt Line casting and more. The conical head rivets on the boiler are .070 Tichy Train Group #8268. For the stay bolts I sanded off the round top of a .070 Ticth Train Group round rivets #8078.

Hi Gordon
That's scratch building at its best. I am also impressed by your endurance. I don't know how you did the rivets and bolts ether or I forgot it, sorry!
But here an alternative to save costs (I did it some years ago on a First World War tank):
Nuts.jpg
Some sort of knocked up pliers with tiny holes to hold the plastic rods. A slight touch with the flame of a lighter...that's all! Yes it looks rather crude but it works!
@ Russ, I didn't know you were one of the rivet counters :)
Frithjof, go stand in the corner. -- ssuR
That is really impressive. And I also admire your perseverance.
Bernhard
Gordon thanks for the info on Rivets
Barney
Russ you need a large bucket to stand in a large dose is required - Go to the corner now !!
Good grief, I wasn't counting. Otherwise I'd have known Gordon installed only 728 rivets. -- ssuR
Nice work, Gordon!
Thanks guys for your comments. Here's two photo of my progress. The frame, front axle assembly. and most of the steering assembly. Next working on parts of the cab and masking off were the engine attaches to the boiler and frame. so I can paint the boiler and frame before adding more parts.(sorry for the quality of the two photos the next photos will be better)
