Having another go with a bit more hope to finish This Time !!!!!
Scale 1/35th - climate hot and sticky with a touch of Murphy's War The start of a new "power house " Stone ends and open sides - first the floor A layer of plastic card with a top layer of stone slabs cracked in places lego blocks for the engine bases.
Diorama Debris 1/35th bricks on thin card for motor joints
Stone End walls Diorama Debris 1/35th stone blocks on a cardboard template and on the other side Plastic Card with detail (example shown on a smaller building for the Diesel engine driven generator )
End Walls up and detailed inside and a base ground cover started
Steam engine and Hot oil engine trial fit on there brick base - boiler started with cobbled base (Diorama Debris )
Also the Overhead crane beam trial fit
Steam engine will be for a overhead pulley /belt system for the saw mill and other machines in the mill
Hot Oil engine is to drive a Large compressor
Barney
Now loads of pulley / belts/ brackets and fixings for all the beams and the completion of the engines and boiler
I'm always fascinated by the technical stuff you're cranking out 'just like that'!
Extremely adequate so far. Charismatic, too. -- Russ
The walls are brilliantly done, both outside and inside.
Bernhard
That is a great start. Keep it going
Beautiful modeling!
Jerry
I love it! Are the stone blocks plaster castings?
Ray I use Diorama Debris Silicon moulds https://www.dioramadebris.co.uk And colour the plaster with mortar mix powder colours - Photo of silicone moulds are odd things to photo but here goes
Barney
Finishing of the Steam Engine and Hot oil engine - every time I look I find something else to add but I think I have it finished at last - now ready for the spray for a coat of undercoat (Humbrol Rules)
A few shots of each side not to boring I hope !! some parts trial fit only hence the wobbly look ! to make the spray job easer
Side 1 steam engine
Steam engine Ends
Hot Oil engine Sides
Hot Oil Engine Ends
Still found more to add and modify !!!!
Barney
Barney, I think you've got it this time!
The way the end walls are constructed I am wondering if there will not be side walls so that the engines and the interior can be easily studied?
Amazing work! Are the machines based on real prototypes?
Bernhard
The Hot oil engine based on a Ruston Hornsby -England
and the Steam Engine is based on an Atlas - USA
Both made many variations so I went down the middle in my normal "Freelance Prototypes" Way
Bill the sides will be open and from the saw mill side you should be able to see right through - the back wooden wall will have to large doorways
Barney
Marvelous work as usual! But what is a hot oil engine? Do you mean a hot bulb engine?
Nice work. I'm looking forward to the completed project.
Ray - Yes also known as "Hot Bulb" I took loads of photos of my version and the owner said later versions of HoT bulb types had slight improvements were the Fuel/ oil is sprayed in ( not injected as in Diesel ) this is were the term Hot oil comes in its getting closer to the Diesel engine as we now know it
The Spray is started at the Hot bulb end of things and gets heated up from the hot bulb - All mind boggling thoughts !!!
Barney
Hi Barney.
It is coming together really well,
Your mini machinery is very convincing.
cheers
Hot Bulb Engine and Steam Engine now in place the Compressor (which will be driven from the Hot Bulb Engine is a trial fit and is still in undercoat stage a few fury bits of timber to sort and then its Over head pulleys and shafts and loads of pipe work said with a short intake of breath !!
Barney
1 the Steam Engine side
2 the Hot bulb engine side
3 looking down the 3 cylinder compressor on the end wall still in Primer
The Hot bulb /hot oil engine the rusty bit on the end is where the Hot Bulb Lives for starting
Awesome! I'm amazed at how quickly you put these things together.
The quality is to your usual very high standards. Satisfactory. -- Russ
Ray I consider myself a slow model builder my main fault being I tend to wander off (scale hopping) in to other subjects the
"Steam Punk " era already having thoughts on along with some large scale stuff just for a rest back to the Garner era "the Onion Harvester days ( last seen on this forum under marine stuff Jan 27 2013 ) can not believe it was that long ago I was just a young Lad !!!!
This one Jacobs Creek - A bit of old stock from the stock box to help it on its way The Engines were built some 2 years early but got a bit fed up with them they were never finish until now - so my apologies if it makes me look like some super model builder !!
Barney
collecting bits for my Steam Punk stuff and sleeping !
Bit more work on the power house - some of the overhead pulley system - the steam engine ones are for the Timber mill one drive for the saw and the other one for various machines in the mill - the arrival of the reconditioned 3 cylinder compressor ( the nice clean looking blue thing just back from a major overhaul)
1st the Steam engine side belt tensioner yet to be fitted
2nd the Hot Bulb engine side with reconditioned compressor (still some work to the support beams )
Barney
Looks great!
You do have something of a flair for such dioramas, young Barney. Quite adequate so far. -- Russ
Back to the power house project - but first a bit of demolishing - Just thought the beams looked a bit over scale so now replaced with much lighter versions
Photo one the heavy look
2 the demolishing
Boiler nearly done (trial fit only) and the replacement beams ready for nuts /bolts and brackets
I like the little steering wheel on the boiler, just the right size for racing, and a detail amateurs neglect. -- Russ
Steering wheel on the large size due to the lack of power steering !
Barney
still asleep
Getting myself together to start the junk and clutter - some weeds - and loads of pipes
Still loads of work on the other side to do
Quote from: Barney on October 26, 2023, 01:21:29 PMStill loads of work on the other side to do
You need to speed up as Hilton is only a couple of weekends away.
It begins to live. I like it very much,
Bernhard
Most satisfactory. And please take Nick's advice. -- Russ
Its not so much speed Im after its more on the lines of "inspiration" of looking at Nicks Churchill tank can't wait much longer though the anxiety of waiting is doing me in !!!!!!

Sorry, there is not much to get inspired about , as it is only three similar Churchill's unfinished and unpainted , made straight out of the box .
Looks good!
The POWER HOUSE is now in storage with a "new owner" last minute sale at the Slim Gauge Circle Mini convention at Rugby England to-day
Did get a bit fed up with it all - So my Slate is now clean and I can start a new project !! what Im not sure

OK, which sly underhand cad sneaked in and stole that model from under my nose ? ....and I was just going to the bank to withdraw the cash . £500.00 without a roof is what we agreed , wasn't it ?
The day I get that sort of money I shall defiantly retire -
Barney
with a clean slate
Nice work and detail.
