Dug out of the reject box with determination to finish it !! a small critter based on an article in the Narrow Gauge & Industrial Review (issue no' 20)
My version of a Fowler Narrow gauge Forestry inspection car - scale is 1/35th mainly built from plastic card and Evergreen styrene strip and sections
the wheels run in brass bearings with the intention of a small motorised unit to "push it along" the engine ( a 2 cylinder diesel) is a trial fit at the moment with a bit of further detailing required - it did have the roof on at one point but in a moment of madness ! thought how do I paint the inside !

That's one I haven't seen before. Glad you're working on it again, looks like a fun critter.
It looks irretrievably hideous, of course, but I can't imagine why you tossed it in a box and left it unfinished. I suspect the completed model will be most satisfactory. -- Russ
That looks great! I'm glad you're going to finish it.
Barney, you come up with some really great ideas, wonderfully executed as always. Are you going back to 1/35th then?
Les
up date on the little critter - Undercoat /primer completed this morning - looking good-
Les - yes dabbling again in 1/35th - still got loads of detailing bits and kits swell as buying a few extra kits -some lovely stuff coming on the market
all in the era I Like for logging
A FWD to be converted to a crane type
And a Cat for general hauling
Please document every project here. -- Russ
With all those kits available you're almost tempting me back to 1/35th scale
Les
great job there Barney did you make the couplers yourself ?With the couplers with so many around this style is definately the best for 1/35 narrow gauge,
cheers Kim
With 1/35 the range is being added to all the time Min Art is being very serious about its range, myself I mix up 1/32 and 1/35 and pushing it o scale both American and Continental.
Kim couplers scratch built front -rear one a resin casting from the Old Pepper7 range They are still around but I can not access there web site www.avalonmodels.co.uk (it always seems to come up as some fashion products) but they do have a new Sales email Sales@avalonmodels.com.uk
And they say all orders to hmartin3611@biternet.com Thats if you know what you want !! - its a shame they are not a bit more organised because the quality of there products is exceptional and they do a good range of products.
Managed to get a photo of the Forestry Critter by Courtesy Narrow Gauge & Industrial Railway Modelling REVIEW
as I said before the model is my version not an exact copy of the Prototype ( Im not that good at it and I like things a little bit different !!)

better photo
Hi Barney.
Have you checked out the range from Tebee Models they have all sorts of printed stuff,
cheers
Kim - Mr Tebee has one hell of a list of stuff - Whats the Quality Like is it fine -

Hi Barney.
looks like one of the commercial arms of Shapeways maybe a bit expensive. I really like their industrial steam locos in 1/32 scale but they recommend using a Hornby 040 pug loco for power I don't think so the Hornby unit is crap is there any other alternatives?
Im not sure what would fit and as you say The Hornby Pug is not the best of mech's to own ! I have sent for A Dapol b4 Tank loco in OO but deliveries are a bit slow - but I have seen the unit run at a show and I think it will be used a lot for convertions to our odd bod scales I have even looked at fitting a larger cab Upscale to 1/35th and change a few fittings
Lovely runner like most 00 mechs of today Im sure some thing must fit
Barney
This is a really nice critter. I'm excited about the paint job.
Bernhard
Smuckers Lumber Company Rail & forest inspection motor trolley -2nd engine larger than first so requires some new engine / floor and gear box covers but of corse this will never
happen ! and a revised roof much easer to fit after painting inside - still waiting for a few tools and oil cans our post has totally gone to pot but still Im sure they are doing there best under these "weird times"

Looks great Barney!
You just crank out models by the dozen. Another adequate endeavor. -- Russ
Great job there Barney.
Beautiful!
Russ I wish I was faster !! my projects seem to go on for ever and most versions don't pass the morning test this little critter is on number 5 version of the engine before satisfaction still I suppose its better than a "that will do attitude "
better photos soon when the tools & cans arrive - did anyone ever come up with the answer to larger photos my replies used to do it and then it will not do it
Barney
Open the photo in Preview on your Mac. In the Tools drop down menu choose Adjust Size. Type in a bigger number for width; height will change automatically. Type in "72" for the resolution and make sure Scale Porportionally is checked. You should wind up with a bigger image with the same number of kilobytes. If not, fiddle around with the settings and see what happens. I'm writing this from memory so I may have overlooked something. -- Russ
I like it Barney!
Bernhard
Barney,
a very convincing model. Reminds me of those Japanese forestry railways. Looks good to me!
Volker
did it work
I think we are getting there
still a small photo when opening the file Forestry in' - but have to click on photo to make it bigger -it still don't go on straight away !! when first posted
If that makes any sense to any one !
Barney
The newbie thinking small
When you have a bigger image, the frustrating forum software always shows a smaller one in your post. As you discovered, clicking on it brings up the bigger one. I always click on small images to see if they're "placeholders". Far from ideal but better than nothing! -- Russ
Got it - I shall know go away again Thanks for the info'
Barney
re-building the petrol pump !
Found a few better photos of the finished critter

The other side
Sorry not the other side
I had forgotten about that little gem. Satisfactory. -- Russ
Looks great!
What a neat model! I really do admire your clean and precise styrene work. Maybe the critter might benefit from some additional weathering; at the moment for my opinion it looks a bit to 'air brushed' at the moment.
Cheers,
volker
great job there Barney great finish.
cheers Kim
