Title: Packaging Steam Locomotives for Shipping Part 2
Post by: Jim Kottkamp on June 22, 2016, 02:54:12 AM
Once the frame was properly supported, the pilot beam and rear of the frame were both secured.  The final steps involved building a Cab enclosure and a bar that went over the sand dome which could bear significant stress.  All engine surfaces were protected with a foam material to prevent scratching.  This engine cradle was then boxed and shipped back to Scotland.    It survived international shipping without any adverse effects.
