Right , Barnycle , that one's mine when you are bored with it . And don't paint it bloody Humbrol khaki either !
Nick
I have this image of onions just floating in space with long tendrils soaking up the ether waiting for somebody to harvest them.
Michael
This appeals to me on so many levels - I'm only upset that I didn't have the talent and imagination to think of it myself.
Looking froward to seeing how it turns out.
I can only echo Andi's comment. Great fun to see.
Very realistic steel cancer under the primer. Time for a show and tell on the pitting and rusting of the superstructrue.
Cool piece so far! Looks fun!
Barney,
Just to satisfy my curiosity: What ever happend to your onion harvester? Did you finish it, is this Project on hold - or did it end finally as a shelf orphan?
cheers
I love the "screw" (prop) that's a naval term, for all you land lubbers
It looks like the fan blade from an 80's Chevy, but oh how it works!
Even though people think MPH lives in "Supdsville" it's really the Sugar beet and Onion capital of the world, we got's onions to the left of us and to the right of us, we've got onions coming out of our potato ears!
nice job, every time I see one of these I want to build my own navy, or is it air force,................. ::)
MPH
knee deep in onions, and beets, and cows,................not many potato's
Gerald - I suppose you could call it on hold and a re - think into building a bigger version at the moment it's in box number 23 ready for the big house move !

Just as long as box number 23 is not the one that the dustmen take you are OK . Yes you need to finish it as my flying ship empire is a bit lacking at the moment .

Two years on and box 23 has been opened !! and the island in the sky started and no its not a "cup holder "
Barney
You can get Lego blocks in any where ;D ;D :D
Look forward to seeing further progress
For the island rock work I have used DAS modelling clay built up on a light frame work of foam board and a floor or MDF bolted together for strength - the clear acrylic cup is for a storage tank to store the concentrated onion pulp - the lego will be used for the Gothic remains of a building - well thats the story so far - Garner the "Onion Harvester" is also on the list for a complete refit .

... I'm looking forward to the bigger version of the onion harvester yet to come ... :o ;D
Cheers
Bit more done on the LEGO ISLAND walls completed and a bit of texture on the stone building
lego bricks skinned with plastic card
gothic windows laser cut by YORK MODELS they do an excellent range of products + excellent service
the other side !
Barney
Barney I am glad that you have got this back out of the box. The building looks a bit spare, not much to keep the ions out.
Michael
GARNER MK2 The rusting hulk is now ready for detailing
A question people keep asking "how does it float with all those holes in the hull"
The row of LEGO stumps in red on the underside are for mounting the propulsion engines these will be in a new condition
Barney
I love the corrosion. And you really need to keep at least one happy face on the finished model! -- Russ
well its nuts/bolts and rivet time for Garner mk2
still more to do on the crane
next the interior and controls plus a bit of rigging but I guess a few more rivets to go
Barney
Shaping up beautifully. -- Russ
Very cool!
Propulsion engines for Garner still more to do but its a start (complete with a lesson) used a different plastic glue on a recommendation very aggressive and gave me a headache !! so it needs a bit of a clean up "more work" and stick to what works for you !
Barney
Start if the new Mk 2 island with storage tank
Headache or not, you do rather adequate work. -- Russ
Nice stuff here.
I like the look of those engines, and the island is interesting too.
At last the completion of "Garner"

GREAT!!!!!!! Allan
Your onion harvester is so good it brings tears to my eyes. -- ssuR
Really cool build but,
as a kid I worked on an onion harvester in the Phoenix Valley
and I don't remember it looking anything like this.
Again but,
with all the sweat, dust and onion vapor in the air burning the eyes
maybe it did look like this :D
Nice build
Rick
Very imaginative and well-executed!
