Right now I am watching what must be one of the strangest TV-shows in Norway.
It is a realtime cab ride on the "Nordlandsbanen", the railroad from Trondheim to Bodø.
This is a 10 hour trainride, so the show is 10 hours long as well.
For some strange reason this type of TV-shows are very popular, so they have made several shows like this from different railway lines in Norway. They have even made one on "Hurtigruta", an coastal express boat trip that takes more than 6 days! All of it was broadcast!

hi hauk.
i went for a 5 minute train ride lots of fast forward, bit like a real time travel log .
one question why do the colour light railway signals flash when a train approaches-does it help in the snowy conditions to increase there visibility?
regards kim

I really have not thought about that, but I would guess that your theory is correct. But I dont think flashing lights are unique to Norway, so I doubt it is only because of the snow.
they are pritty unique usually a flashing signal is a warning in this case they are main line signal track.the bottom aspect flashes usually this is the speed warning, also the signals are on the right side of he track in most other countries thy are on the left.norway is a beautiful country.
kind regards kim
Very nice how they show the different seasons during the ride.

Yes, they have put quite some effort into this. They have filmed at least four trips, and with two or three cameras.
And they still have a couple of hours left before they arrive in Bodø!
In norway the in and out signal flash red when the other is red. If it dont flashes the other one is green. It means that when a train have a red signal in to the station, if it flash the signal out of the station is red. If it dont it is green.
1 green light means that it dont have to run thru a Turnout. 2 means that it have to.
