Change of plans for my backwoods generator due to my heavy handed Rusting of the German Ford body now replaced with a GMC body and nearly ready for the paint shop

Without a doubt, coming out of the slump. Can't wait to see further assembly.
Sweet!
Aren't you worried about not using the ol Humbrol OD? ;) ;D ;D ;D

It'a alright , his therapist says he will be over the worst of his panic attacks by Christmas and then a couple of months of visits to a paint factory where OD is not produced and he will be ready to return to normal society . Maybe ,
Nick
Much to my surprise, 2 intelligent people ::) like yourselves have missed the obvious!
Why do you think he scrapped the German Ford, even Barney would struggle to justify OD on that ................ but now that he has switched to a GMC body think you will find the OD is making a rapid come-back !
Anyway its nice work Barney , do like the cooling system modification.
( ...... is not more normal for the header tank to be mounted slightly higher than the radiator , some nice brackets to raise it higher than the top of the scuttle .................... but what do I know)
and just for Gordon - on the rough drawing it is shown as a header tank should read water tank - basically just some were to join the plumbing and just a few photos of the Header Tank (old oil drum) all parts just just placed on to get a feel of it

Love the project!
I always wanted to do a similar idea as power for
a sawmill.
Im very confused by the water tank.
The engine would have had a recirculating cooling system.
Not sure how what you have would keep the powerplant at operating temp.
???
Marty
Marty the last thing we want when coming out of a modelling slump is confusion or a headache our innovative farmer had a large Caterpillar radiator and a 10 gallon oil drum and plumbed it in using old heating pipes and elbows a few bits of rubber pipe of the old milking machine and as we say over here "bobs yer uncle" a few leaks but with 40gal of water floating round an old Ford flathead V8 it should do the trick ---- Ford V8 in a GMC !! whats all that about !!!

And, in order to get that 40gal floating thru the flathead, you'll need to finish the plumbing as Marty suggested ... a tube from the radiator to the engine block ... then a return from the engine block to the drum ...
Keep up the good work! No slouching! ;D
Dallas
Dallas,
You are dealing with an Automitve Engineer in Barney , so I am sure ..... After he has sprayed everything OD he will add the top and bottom water lines from the block to the radiator :)
Now my Engineering will come out ...... Header tanks are just that , just a means of topping up the radiator so no direct connection between it and the engine
Hmm ... wonder how many Lego blocks it takes to design a 1:1 car ... very interesting! (And pardon the useless input from the peanut gallery!) :-X :P 8) -- Dallas
380,000.
....at least that's what it took to build a Ford Explorer out of Legos.

I like what I've seen of this build so far. Methinks it shall be grand. -- Russ
Nice project. Someday I want to do a mine hoist powered by an old truck.

Sounds very Lane Stewartish . Actually , I have been thinking on those lines recently as well . I have two pictures of old vehicles being used as mine winches . The first is an old lorry with its rear axles removed and a winch mounted on the back and , my favourite , a Ruston-Bucyrus RB17/19 off its crawlers and with its jib removed doing the same job . They would both make good models . The pictures can both be found in " Small Mines of South Wales" by A. J. Booth .

Cooling problems solved half a 45 gallon oil drum should do it

Dabbling with the roof for the generator

Ooo, I like that roof!
Nice roof ! , details please
See you could not built something without including OD!
Roof covering is "tissue paper" cut to suitable size strips - dipped in a dilute mixture of PVA glue and water (same mix as you would use for scenery / ground cover) and cover the roof - crinkle it a bit to leave air bubbles to get a lifting effect of the roof covering if required . the tissue paper normally has a dull side and a slightly gloss side use both to give a slightly different effect -

Looking more-n-more interesting all the time. Like the change to the vertical cooling barrel. Cheers, Dallas
Looking good Barney. One question (coming from rainy Oregon I can't help but notice) how are you going to keep the rain run off from the cab roof from getting into the engine and stalling it out?
I will have to think this one out !! Watch this space ( Gordon help how do I wriggle on this one)
Barney
Looking for an old inner tube
Bill, you will need to refer back to the original blueprints (page 1) , a drawing worthy of DeVinci!
As you will see reference is made to a corrugated roof over the whole contraption, now obviously modern developments with materials have now reached a stage where the tar paper roof is the better option .... As captured in the tissue build above. This immensly and weather proof structure will ensure that no rain actually falls on the vehicle roof and thus there are no issues re water run off on to the engine.
.fivers in the envelope please Barney
British innovations at its best - and when I find that old inner tube all it wants is a bit tucked under the bonnet or hood or what ever you want to call it

Easy . Put a gutter on the roof .
Do I have to do all the thinking around here !

What a relief. I was concerned that the engine would get flooded out when really needed. ;D

Excellent work and attention to those little detalis.

Plodding on with the project slowly - but it has encouraged me to continue on Oscars workshop by creating two or three small diorama to create one workshop and out buildings without getting bored ! the generator scene has now developed into the "Welding Shack" which will end up at the rear of Oscars workshop -well that's the theory ! most of the bits and pisces are only placed on just to get the feel of things
