Though maybe we could do a seperate section/thread, to share photos of models from around the web, by others, that are quality, intersting, creative, fun and/or inspiring works.
Wherever possible it would be great to post the builder, and any info on the subject.

What do you get with a pile of 900,000 matchsticks and 30 years of your life ?
Koln cathedral .
Also by the same masochistic German.
Extreme modeling really is some kind of (usually) benign mental affliction. Most don't need padded walls for their workrooms, but I'm sure there are exceptions.
I love these kind of pictures and at the same time loath them! It makes me seem so inadequate.
Thanks for making feel so good about myself!

How do you think I know?
The motorcycle is amazing ... and really cool to see that in unpainted state to admire the construction.
Regarding the cathedral made of matchsticks ... how the heck do you make stained glass out of matchsticks? ???

I find these kind of pictures very intimidating, and inspiring all at the same time. One wants to emulate what it is you see, but with the fear and almost certain knowledge that you're just not going to get close.
I know it's in the trying that one may learn and make progress, that in itself is a psychological platitude .............. it's just that whilst they make me all but quiver with excitement, they kind of make me want to poop myself too..... Go figure!!!
This just goes to show that there is a whole world of excellent modellers out there and we don't usually see it because of language barriers . Another good reason why it should be made compulsory for everyone to learn English !
I would be interested to see the reference photo(s) for the SAS diorama . I never thought that they used what appears to be an old Bentley in their endeavours . Nice model , though .

Too much to sum up in a few words ... but thanks & keep 'em coming! -- Dallas
Great stuff. I especially like the Japanese bus, and the truck hauling the smaller truck.
More seriously now; these images are truly fantastic, and if ever there was ever a need to use the word "sublime", then this would be it.
It's difficult to get your head around the conception of some of these projects, but then having the skills base to see them through to a successful conclusion is just all the more humbling.
I too enjoy the automotive examples, perhaps because I'm more familiar with the subject and can "read" the model better? But some of those fantasy models just leave me slack jawed such is their prowess.
The Rushmoresque soldier is particularly noteworthy, not only for its execution but the elusively simple premise is breathtaking in its own right, as is the "jumping" observers - a million years wouldn't have seen me come up with that one.
Now, strangely!!! ................. the big blousey overloaded diorama's are leaving me confused and disorientated. I understand them OK, and I can read them alright........... but I think I'm struggling to take in such a huge panorama of modelling - all in one gulp so to speak. It's the sort of thing that folk would ask afterwards ... did you see? and wasn't that brilliant etc etc; and I'd have to admit that I had missed mostly all of it because although looking I had simply stopped seeing!
So, for me the smaller more focused pieces seem to work better, not necessarily single cameo pieces [although fabulous] but rather more refined "short stories".
And I personally feel that when you can start to read these pieces figuratively, and at the level of skill it takes to be able to communicate the meaning and emotional content of said piece - then I think you can say that they are beginning to brush the brittle fringes of what it is we call Art.
Just mine own opinion of course.
http://www.euromilitaire.co.uk/editorial/page.asp?p=631 . Speaks for itself .
Andi ,
I understand where you are coming from . I find that when I'm at these shows there is just to much to absorb at once and that I can't truly appreciate the modelling until I look at photos after the event .

Marc,
That's not a sculpture of a roo, that's what the clever buggers came up with as part of the next gen cyborg roo population. They're everywhere now, taking over small rural towns one at a time. Someone must have let them borrow a copy of Terminator at some point, and it sent them hopping mad on a power trip.
Nick,
I don't think they have updated the travel guides and alerts about this small issue we have at the minute...didn't want to scare off the tourists ;D

Really like the seeming "simplicity" of this dio design ... but I think the elegance of it suggests a fair bit of cleverness in making that simplicity work ... for example, the rounded roof on the stone portion of the building that mimics the base contour. since i like art in a box a lot:
miniature interiors by Charles Matton. Matton, who died in 2008 of lung cancer, built 'Boxes'' that recreated elaborate libraries, studios of classical sculptors, rooms of famous writers - even simple bathrooms. Matton and his assistant painstakingly hand-built, painted and sculpted every visible detail to 1/7 scale (ok quite a large scale, but still), from fading wallpaper to broken light sockets.
http://www.allvisualarts.org/exhibitions/Enclosures/Images.aspx
That's great stuff! I especially like his use of light and shadows, and also mirrors to create the illusion of depth.
Wow, those Charles Matton pieces are brilliant. Just brilliant concept (and well maintained style/theme), and brilliant modelling. One could get lost within those boxes. Each is almost like a miniature film set. Will be back for a few long study session! Thanks for the link.
Cheers,
Dan

Gordon, been following that one on the MIG forum, the overall finish is one of the finest I have seen portraying a well used machine ....... but my favourite bit of the model is the way he did the engine.
Both the structure and the tractor are top-notch! What scale is the structure?
Not sure about the scale of the structure Ray, but you can follow the build here: http://akinteractive.foroactivo.com/t810-a-summer-project

Dan ,
The work of John Tolcher is worth flying 10,000 miles to go and see . Any chance of contacting him to see if he is willing to come along to your " Little Gathering" next year so that we can see some of his models up close ? Maybe the odd clinic ? Having him there would certainly put your show into the next league .
Just a thought ,
Nick
He posts here occasionally. That is a spectacular job on that tractor. If someone would cast a Caterpiller radiator I might be game to do one too.

Uhm...with a toothpick. ;)
;D I did this a month or two ago, but as I recall I used a small, coarse artists brush as well.
These peices were tests for a double layer of chipping I tried before using the technique on the tractor. If you like I can put a SBS in the Painting and Weathering category.
Thanks for the interest, guys! Cheers

I would have thought that a girl in a thong bikini would put chaps off admiring John's gorgeous , sexy , tasty and delicious model . Come on , where's your sense of priorities ? Beautiful girls in thong bikinis are two a penny , but models like these are somewhat rarer .
Oh , alright , but it will have to be done tastefully !

Guess who ? Or should I say , guess who's back in town ?
Nice share Nick!
See we have a new front page as well...I needed some new reading material, thanks Russ :)

Thanks. All the paper books are en route and the digital books should be online soon.
Also, my web guy now has a ton of back issues, one from as early as 1998, to make available for download.
Russ
Hi all,
Sorry this is a bit off topic from the thread, but related to a previous posting, sort of. This might sound like a dumb question, but as someone who DOESN'T own an iPad, and likes my PC, can I read digital downloaded books that come as the "iPad version" on that PC?
The Annuals here available as downloads are PDF's, so work ok (or should, I haven't had to download since I have all those books from previously). This came from checking out the AK Interactive Weathering Magazine that is due for digital release in September, but says it is an iPad version. Thought best to ask early, rather than miss out on the print version of the book if thats the only way I can read it.
Cheers,
Dan
Dan
It depends what format they use for the digital version. If it's an iOS or Android app you'll only be able to read it on a device running the relevant OS. If it uses Zinio it'll be readable on just about anything (if you can put up with Zinio's crappy interface). If it uses Pocketmags it should be readable on anything, but possibly only online and only for as long as you keep your subscription paid up (although that seems to be changing for some publications now).
