While doing an image search for old buildings, I found some pics and info about a place called Bingham Canyon. The town that once existed there is long gone, the entire area having been excavated as the mine expanded. But looks like it would have been a cool prototype for modeling. The town was built in a canyon so narrow, there was only one street, with buildings squeezed in on each side of it. There were lots of railroad tracks and bridges too.
Here are a few pics. Unfortunately I haven't found many good pics taken at street level..

I live nearby and never knew about this place. Maybe Copperton is what's left of that town, or maybe a relocation of that town farther down the canyon. Cool photos, thanks for sharing. Northern Utah used to be such a buzz with mining activity, (before my time time anyway.) but about all that's left now is Rio Tinto, (formerly Kennecott Copper) and some small mine near Eureka.

Thanks. For some reason, I can't find the photos. Maybe the site doesn't like my browser or something -- does anyone else see any photos on this page?

Hi Ray,
I don't know how you got to the finding aids page, the link I posted goes to the photo index.
Type Bingham in the search box and 876 photos will come up.
Cheers,
dpm
Oops, I see what I did wrong... entered it into the wrong search field (Google's, at the top of the page) instead of the one in the middle of the page. Got it right this time.
Thanks!

Very interesting photos Ray. I found one building that I'd like to model, the Post Office. May give it a try if I can find more photos of the backside and top views.

Here's an account of that incident, followed by a few pics:

Being located in a narrow, steep canyon, they had a lot of trouble with stuff crashing down the mountainsides. Avalanches, boulders, trains, etc. Oddly enough, I haven't seen any mention yet of flashfloods.
Thanks for the info and additional pics.
