Title: Amazing Kinetic Sculpture by U-Ram Choe
Post by: W.P. Rayner on November 19, 2011, 09:13:43 AM
Check out this amazing kinetic sculpture, "Guardian of the Hole," by U-Ram Choe (http://www.uram.net/eng/intro_en.html/), currently on display at the Asia Society Museum in NYC. Not only is the concept and fluidity of movement mesmerizing, the mechanical complexity and machine-work is mind-boggling. It's almost too complex to comprehend in this short video http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=4U0ZOkpjap0 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=4U0ZOkpjap0), definitely worth a visit if you're anywhere within range of NYC.

Here's a second video, interview with the artist in his studio, showing several more works in progress...

Thank you for sharing!
A fantastic piece of art.
I would love to see some of U-Ram Choe´s art in real life some day.

Simply brilliant engineering portrayed in such a beautiful manor.

Thanks for the links.  I'll be back for further looks.  As amazing as what the sculptures are, I find it equally as fascinating to sit back and wonder about the artist thinking and brainstorming process in developing something as complex as that.  They are not the standard engineering and mechatronics projects.

Cheers,
Dan

Incredible.
I love seeing people do things well, whatever it is.
KInd of reminds me of the early work of Neil Denari and Wes Jones - unnecessarily complex and beautiful mechanisms.
