Title: Lots of reference material from Nevada
Post by: Ray Dunakin on August 15, 2011, 06:26:00 PM
I just finished posting an account of my 2011 Nevada trip, plus pics and a couple videos:

http://www.raydunakin.com/Site/Nevada_Trip_2011_Part_One.html (http://www.raydunakin.com/Site/Nevada_Trip_2011_Part_One.html)

I saw a lot of historic buildings and ruins, old mines, equipment, vehicles and other things that might be useful to modelers. Many of the vehicles and equipment are documented in detail on my Vintage Machinery page, including some old-fashioned gas pumps, a Chevy tanker truck, two different mine hoists, a Farmall tractor, and a mint-condition, 1923 Model T Ford:

I visited the Nevada Northern Railway Museum too, and got plenty of photos of #40, a 4-6-0 built by Baldwin in 1910.

Enjoy!

I found out there was a problem with my Keeler, CA page. I _think_ I got it fixed.

Hi Ray, just had a quick browse through, thanks for taking the trouble to post & share that with us
Ref the yellow hoist truck
I had a look at pic 4860, & thought that the gear change/selector manufacturers plate said  " Harvester 900"
well after afew false trails came across this site

http://tractors.wikia.com/wiki/International_900_Pickup

lower down page is a pic of a yellow International B100
with similar characteristics but perhaps a newer version of the one you photoed
Perhaps a 40s International?

I just checked the original image, which is much higher resolution than the one on my website. The thing with the lever on it must be for the turn signals. The plate says, "Signal-Stat 900 - SIGFLARE".

The yellow hoist truck looks like WWII vintage, possibly former military vehicle.

Very nice photos and story Ray.   I too am kind of a ghost Town buff.   I noticed from your list that you don't have Bodie, CA on there.   Although it is well documented, it is a must see place.
This is one of my favorite photo sites for Ghost Towns http://www.ghosttowngallery.com/ (http://www.ghosttowngallery.com/) although I'm sure you probably have most of the good ones bookmarked.

I've been to Bodie a couple times but it was in my pre-digital days, so I need to get the pics scanned before I can post them online. I've got tons of stuff like that.

Ray,

You cannot imagine just how much I enjoy your photos.

Our hobby offers a tremendous variety of areas of interest but your photos continue to remind me of what I enjoy building the most----run down old decayed shacks and mines.

If I were physically able to join you on one of your trips I know I would love it.

But old age and decreipedness makes it impossible to do so.

So thank you again for being my "eyes" in your treks.
