Post by: DarBeck on July 16, 2011, 08:27:24 AM
Hi everyone! I am a newly registered user of your forum. I come from Polish and I would like to present you my new and slightly older works. For over 30 years dealing with modeling, and more than 5 years I build models from scratch, antique motorcycles. I want to present you my newest model. It is built from the ground INDIAN CHIEF model of 1952.

Hi Darius --

Welcome .... and wow!  Beautiful model.  What is the scale?  What materials did you use?  Did you shoot any photos during construction!

Cheers,
Dallas

My first motorcycle was a 1946 Indian Chief, a former Springfield, Mass. police bike.   My buddy had a 1951, but they were all pretty much the same.
That model sure brings back some memories.   The only difference was that mine had a windshield and saddlebags and a growler siren.
Also, there were not two cables from the handlebar levers; only one for the front brake.    The clutch was the rocker foot pedal on the left.   Handshift was on the right.
And if I had kept the bike I could be a rich man today.
Sure would like to see more of your work. 8)

Hi! I'm new to this forum, so I do not really know if I can in this thread show pictures of the construction. Please hint. But to answer your questions. Indians in the scale 1 / 9. I built it from aluminum, plastic, bronze. The saddle is covered in genuine leather. The frame I made from old plastic molded parts, tank and fenders are made of resin. It's a bit of steel, for example the spokes. I built it for 6 months. In Poland, Indiana were used after World War I in the police. Few survived to them today, but how to meet them are very expensive, I think with you in the U.S. are also included.  ;D
Yours

Hello everyone. The hardest to perform was the fuel tank and fenders. First I made of foam plastic fenders and tank two, which later I made the mold. The resin forms with elements ready done. Only the engine gave me so much work, but the engine will tell later.

This part of the picture shows the ready, glued and painted elements. The model I made based on photographs of the original Indiana, the colors were so original. Indian head on front fender, done with modeling clay.

Hi all! Thank you for your appreciation. Very pleased to read such positive feedback about my modeling. I want to show pictures of the construction of the engine. This is the hardest and most labor-intensive construction phase. Work on the engine lasted about 2 months. Everything had to fit together in the final stage of the engine had to fit perfectly in the frame of the motorcycle. The hard work paid off and thanks to my model engine looks almost like the original.

Very beautiful. You make the curving parts like art. You also make the mechanical parts out of different materials- plastic, metal, lathe turnings, putty. Wonderful to see.

Thanks, John

Hi Chester, airbrush painting a whole, and when it comes to inscriptions on the fuel tank that I cut them on the plotter with adhesive aluminum foil. In the original the word "Indian" was in three dimensions, rather than painted.

Hi friends, when I started building the engine I was wondering how do cylinders. The easiest and fastest way to their execution, was to cut out segments of aluminum. That's how the whole aluminum cylinders. Not polished them to look like the original. Some cylinders later painted in black gloss.

Truly awesome!

Just curious, why aluminum instead of styrene? I would have thought that plastic would be easier to cut and shape. Also, did you glue the aluminum fins onto the cylinder, or solder them?

Hello all! At the end of my photographic reportage from the construction of my "Indian", I wanted to show you of what really had the most work - it was the wheel. And here on the occasion to answer the question Dunakin colleague Ray, why do some things I made from aluminum instead of plastic. I like my work to combine different materials, aluminum is a wonderful material. For many years I dealt with jewelery, hence my tendency to metalworking. Fantastically polished aluminum, for example, mimics the chrome or nickel. That's why I made of aluminum alloy.
Thank you all for your words of recognition to me. I am therefore pleasantly and I feel proud that I wished to take his hobby to the group, and you are all wonderful modeling enthusiasts. I hope that the next presentation of my work also you enjoy it.

That is a perfect job of lacing the spokes.
It's a difficult task on the full size rims and even harder here.

Hello Dariusz,
quite apart from that I can only congratulate to this magnificent model, but I would have one more question.

How did you get done with the holes for the spokes in the wheels?

Holes drilled in the rim. As a rule, we choose the diameter of the drill diameter spokes in the wheels. You have to rozmierzyć distance between spokes. In total, this model is the 36 pieces in one circle.

Yes, I know the work of Mr.. Tarrago. He makes models of which I can only dream of. His models are in 1/6, and my 1/9 scale.
