The real one is done in the 'rat rod' style,  I'll do my version as a more traditional hot rod...

The wheels and tires along with the rear axle are from an old Lindberg Dodge truck kit...

A mockup using a 37 Ford pickup cab...

It's evident ol' PuckHog has a ken for things hot rod and such. Mighty fine work.

Knowledge of the prototype is a good first step, how all the bits and pieces actually work and function together allows a modeler to go beyond mere imitation of shapes. This is miniature garage engineering.

More pics please!

Agreed... this is wonderful work. Really enjoying watching this build. Thanks PuckHog for posting the pictures and am certainly looking forward to more.

I expect you are familiar with Jimmy Shine's (http://www.jimmyshine.com/hotrod-gallery.htm) 34 truck, Bare Nekkid. I've been into traditional bikes for years and am now really starting to like the whole traditional rod genre. Riddler winners can be very nice indeed, but I like seeing what some regular Joe can create with his own hands in his own garage with scrounged used parts and whatever else he has on hand. To my mind, that's the essence of building choppers and hot rods (not having one built by a bunch of fairies with a TV show and a clothing line... oops slipping into a favourite rant here... ;-))

Sufferin' Succotash and Holy Shiitake!  (I got in line early this time)  ;)

That is beautiful, amazing, awe-inducing and extremely inspiring work.  It is an absolute delight to see the numerous photos showing the various fabrication processes and the progress shots as the components all go together.

So, MANY THANKS for the time and effort it takes to shoot and share all those pix ... and keep them coming!

Outstanding!

What did you use for the basic shape of the engine and tranny? Is it from a kit, or homemade casting?

Hello folks,

Thank you all,  not really crazy ;D ;D ;D

Ken,  this build is on the 'Modelcarmag Forum' , Have not built a car model since the late 60's so not current on the different web forums for cars.  I found that one from Dr. Cranky.  Feel free to post on others.

Paul and John,  I was really into cars in the early 70's, built and raced some real clunkers at a small unsactioned dirt track.  Kinda getting an itch to get back into the 1:1 stuff so started lurking on sites like Killbillet and H.A.M.B.  where I found some build threads that are the reference for this.  Now if I can only get approval for another hobby :) :)

Ray,  The block and tranny are kit plastic from a Revell Dodge Charger. Pretty nice casting.

You're metal work is really impressive! The large sheet metal parts are so smooth and correctly shaped, without a lot of dents or unwanted bends.

The whole thing is amazing, I have to keep reminding myself it's only 1/25th scale. It looks much larger than that.

It's no doubt too late but a model like that should be plated or blackened to a sheen, not painted. -- Russ

Just two small, simple questions...

What is the non-brass metal used on floorboards, etc.? Aluminum? Steel? Tin?
How do you get that intricate brass (and other) metal work so clean and shiny after soldering and filing?

Russ, That is an interesting idea for a finish, never thought of that :)

Hi Carlo,  It is tin,   K & S Enginerring .008 tin sheet.     I use polishing sticks from the ladies finger nail finishing section.  I think they are maybe  1000 to 2000 grit?

As Chester said, the level of craftsmanship is remarkable.

This might come out wrong, but it's great to see such a high level
of detail and workmanship being put into such a Ratty car.

I think it's time to use the old exploding head pictorial response again!  -- Dallas

(VERY inspiring work ... but maybe a little too much weathering on the fingers.)  ;D

Yeah, that scratch-built door is definitely making my head go "boom". Awesome work, even more so considering it's brass.

What are the small holes for near the interior handles?

Not quite exploding yet but a lot of rumbling inside. Gorgeous work Randy. I really like the idea that the glass is going where it's supposed to and not just slapped on the inside of the door.

Best brass work I have seen in a long time :o and that car is much smaller than I imagined. Just stunning - it´s almost a shame to paint it ???.

Hi Folks,

Thank you Dallas!  (metal is very dirty ;D)

Ray,  The holes are a recessed spot for mounting screws on the 1:1

  Chester,  Appreciate the comments!

Fan-TAS-tic brass work.
How you did the corners of the roof reminds me of lead paddle custom work back in the 60's.
Each piece of this model is a work of art. Great job so far - can't wait to see more.
Beautiful hinges, too.

Beautiful craftsmanship!
Love all the metal!
Thanks for taking time to show us!

(I "think" there are only 2 hinges.....)

I am surprised the .005" brass on the roof does not distort with the heat. The top is nice and smooth. Very much a master craftsman at work. It appears very little in sophisticated machinery or CAD drawings are used here.

Nice job Randy, thanks for sharing.

I always thought a bit odd that every extra-terrestrial being seems to arrive either in New York or in California, but considering the number of non-human "people" on this forum, I may revise my opinion...

Randy,
Amazing work! I've been told that I was certifiable, but I think I have to give it up to you.
Way to go! I can't wait to see it finished.
