These are quick shots taken just before going to the NMRA-MER Convention this past weekend.
I'll try to get some outdoor shots in natural light ASAP.

The Gn15 Critter beat the Stacker for Best in Show by ONE POINT. Seems that one of
the judges noticed a 12-Volt battery on what was a 6-Volt motor:

That's why I LOVE contest building!
(PS: Had I mentioned in the write-up that the motor had been converted to 12-V, I'da been covered)
What a masterpiece!
Ken,
did those timber stacks get a close third? ;D
Well done on a well earned award. The fact that you actually wired in the battery should have been enough! Did you get many photos from the rest of the show as well?
Cheers,
Dan
Most satisfactory. -- Russ
Ken --
Outstanding! Look forward to the additional photos when they come ...
Cheers,
Dallas
Drool! ;D
Congratulations on a magnificent build Ken.

You'll have to move out of state to get those pictures Ken!!! ;D
Really a great job glad to hear you won. Looking forward to seeing this at CSS2010. I'm sure it will be a winner there also.
Jerry
Did the judges have a voltage meter to prove their theory? ;)
OK so where's this critter? I wanna see what could be better by one measly point.
A magnificent and visually spectacular model it is. Well done. Are you going to display this in a clear case somehow?
John
John:
Pics are a few pegs down in the "Modelers at Work" category under "Gn15 Shop Critter".
(https://www.finescalerr.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimages53.fotki.com%2Fv440%2Fphotos%2F5%2F15405%2F8863211%2F100_0349-vi.jpg&hash=53440e50b4915aeaaafc7715e7b6564f8886fd0f)
Don't know where the stacker will end up being stored yet. I'll probably put the models
in the display case & pack away the base until the diorama is shown again somewhere.
The next stop for it is CSS-10 in November.
Thanks for all the comments..........
Beautiful! I am curious to see the whole thing with the tool shed and all.
Most satisfactory. And I sent you a personal e-mail. -- Russ
Dear me so if I was paying attention I would have recalled the critter was yours also. So you beat out yourself. That's what I get for posting at work, <alt/tab>ing between screens while looking behind me constantly. :P
John
Super nice job.... I bet you could have also won something in these categories, too:
- Tallest scene category (proportional)
- The most expensive piles of neatly stacked scale wood, ever (air dried category)
- The most off-beat diorama / scene idea, ever (we never expected this department)
I hope to get to see it in person some day. Very clever and well done, Gary
Well, Ken, since attaboys are not welcome here, you can't rely upon me to tell you how beautiful, innovative, well done from its conception to its very details this whole scene is. :)
Frederic, if you had been allowed to say it, I'm sure that would've been a nice compliment.
Gary, I finished 2nd in the Most Expensive Wood category....
I got 10,000 sticks on-line for under 20-bucks.
Thanks to the rest of you guys, too.
Now I need another project
Ken,
Just exceptional.
Thank you for sharing.
Rick
It's inspiring to see the completed project Ken. As far as those judges and the battery issue, sounds like a political decision to me. I'd like to see photos of what did win... can't imagine anything finer than your work and creativity on this project.
Paul
Rick: As I've said all along, you're the main reason this project turned out the way it did.
Without your photos, and your willingness to take a long ride to get them, the Stacker
would not have been anywhere near as interesting or as much fun to build.
Thanks VERY much for your help. I hope someday I can return the favor.
Paul: My Critter was the model that beat out the Stacker, so I can't criticize the builder too much..... ;D
Actually, the call on the battery was pretty good. I should've caught that beforehand.
That's what makes contest modeling so much fun!

Ken, Nice job... be nice to see it in person.... Where & when is the CSS-10? Geoff
In my perusing the You-Tube based Poath Archives I saw a very brief clip of a lumber stacker in operations, with guys on two levels taking boards off. It might be in the video I linked to in my Blue Note Room thread, but I watched a bunch tonight so I'm not sure.
It was like seeing a brief video of Bigfoot after only seeing sketches from witness accounts.
Makes your model all the better, Ken.

Geoff, The Craftsman Structure Show is Nov. 11-13 in Mansfield, Mass. Here's the link:

John, if this is the You-Tube clip you mean, there's a brief look at a lumber stacker at 8:40 in.
I stumbled across this quite accidently in the early stages of the project and just about pee'd my pants.

The focus of the entire clip is how "useless tress" are harvested to serve a greater purpose. Gotta love it...
One last look at the stacker project: I took some outdoor pictures in natural light over the weekend.

Thanks again for all the positive comments.
Excellent all around. Will you display the critter on this when you take it to CSS?
Nobody will enter anything better. If the judging is impartial you will win. -- Russ

Yup....I left it out of these photos to focus on the rest of the scene.
Russ: Would a pile of sticks qualify as a "structure"?
That is all any wooden structure is...just arraigned differently. And your shed is certainly a structure.
Ken, the diorama really turned out nice. Great composition and the texture in the wood stacks is just wonderful. The whole diorama is very convincing.

Ken, wonderful diorama. Just an amazing piece of work. Can't wait to see the "Pile of Sticks" at the show next month.
