Hello guys,
I started a new project. I'm going to build a point to point layout in HO scale.
The length will be three meters. The theme will be Harbour.
I maked a model at 1/870 scale.
But at the moment, I make a diorama to pratice différents techniques.

Nice track! -- Russ
No photos showing just blue squares with question marks
is it me our something else
Barney
I don't know why you have just blue square because I can see my photos.
Thank you russ ! I maked the track because I am in proto 87 scale.
Barney, I checked the images and they are jpegs, not links. I've had the same problem as you a few months ago on a different thread. See whether you can right click on a missing image and open it in a new tab or window. Sometimes that works.
One time nothing worked ... until the next day when everything inexplicably was okay. No idea why.
Yes, it's more annoying than somewhat.
Russ
Sami. Good looking track. What is the material shown in your last photo, styrene? Nice weathering whatever it is.
Nice work, especially that track! Love the weathering on it.
Yes I used styrène for the bumper, basswood and rail Micro-engineering for the track.
The french spikes are productions of the unity making by the proto 87 french association.

Hello guys,
It's been a while since I've been here for personal reasons and I'm coming back.
My layout in HO proto scale has advanced a bit and I finished a building.
While waiting to post more photos of my work in progress I let you enjoy these few pictures.
The bricks are in laser cut and the gutters are in Evergreen.

Looks good to me - I like the mixture of materials/stones in the front wall.
The colouring on the wall is perfect. Hard to believe it's HO scale.
I agree with Paul. And the brick size and texture look great. -- Russ
Looking good to me - and I can even see the photos now not just blue squares with question marks - a lovely bit of Small scale modelling
Barney
This also creates something that meets the standard of this forum.
Excellent! Nice mix of materials and textures.
Thank's guys !
This building is inspired of the this model.

Superb colouring and the depth of the brick is just right. Hard to believe its HO scale
Les
Terrific coloring. It's great to see your progress again.
Those doors are fantastic! Nice subtle work!
Love the doors!
I´m going to rip you off shamelessly and try to make my doors for my workshop look exactly the same.
Hauk, Here is how I proceeded to build the door.
I drew a plan of the panel in diamond tip and I cut each pannels in the plasticard evergreen.
I made a mark at the cutter on three diagonals and cut the fourth.
I fixed some adhesive on the back and I folded the whole. The adhesive avoids to the plasticard breaking.
I put glue at the level of the split diagonal to hold the whole and let appear the tip of diamand.
The panels glues with Tamiya extra thin cement on a piece of plasiticard after removing the adhesive.
To be followed...
Wow, I thought you just embossed the raised panels on the doors somehow. But you actually built them! Impressive.

Excellent tutorial! Looking forward to more updates.
Hi guy,
After filling the defects with mastic and sanded, I applied a primer inspired by the modulation technique.
I used four different colors to nuance the panels starting with black and ending with light grey. Then I applied the green color.
Green colour is obtained by mixing three shades Vallejo.
The work is long because it is necessary to masking the previous color and wait for drying between each application of primer

Thank guys !
For the rust I used the traditionnal technique of chipping paint with acrylics colors et and oil colors.

Hi Sami.
Your scratches are perfect.

Thank Kim !
My last working was to create a concrete industrial yard.
Everything is built on the workshop and will be fixed on the layout after.

It all looks really good in the natural light, showing the colors and also the textures.
Really nice!
Excellent! It's hard to beat natural light for photographing models.
Only that not yet a gravelled track in front of it, brings you back into the model world.
Hello guys,
My theme is a french railway. In the trade there is no SNCF track and switching in HO scale.
The proto 87 club offers kits and accesory to get a realistic railway. My switching is build from map.
The railroad ties are in basswood and the rail is the micro engineering code 70.
The switching is not finish.

Salut Sami
Une approche particulièrement intéressante!
By coincidence I had lots of thoughts about the tramway tracks and, in particular, about construction of switches in case of redesigning my wheels. Your pictures and the « proto 87 club» site give a lot of answers.
Very cool project!
Cordialement, Peter
Excellent track work!
Good to see progress on the diorama. Building accurate track with all that scale hardware is tedious and time consuming but the results can be beautiful. I think yours will be very impressive. -- Russ

I completely agree with Bernd about the track and loco. A treat for the eyes. -- Russ
Hello,
At the moment I work on the tower of docker. This tower is present in the harbour of my city. She remained in service until 1962.
she announces the working day with a bell at the top.
I was wrong in certain dimensions and the tower is not the exact scale but the idea is there.
The top of the tower is in scratchbuilding and the bricks is of laser cut.

Good work, I like to see real buildings reproduced.
Very interesting prototype, and an excellent start on the model!
That is a very challenging subject and you've built it very well. -- Russ
Very nicely constructed!
Delightful piece, model building is more then counting bricks or rivets. There are places such as Russ's back garden shed ;D for the people who come up to work like yours with micrometers to prove that a work of art isn't correct.
Very nice Sami, well done. I agree, it's always interesting and I believe more satisfying, to see actual buildings reproduced as models
Excellent work, and a refreshingly original prototype!
Perfect conversion of an interesting prototype into the model!
Bernhard
Thank's guy !
Hello modelers,
After the start of the painting I was not satisfied with the dome. faults that could not be made up properly were visible.
So I started its construction again. I took the opportunity to bring more details.
I prefer this building.
I made also the bell.
Excellent fabrication. -- Russ
Sami, your new dome is a good improvement over the first, which was also well done.
Looks good!
Hello Sami, you have to build things more like once to get a better end result. The roof shape now corresponds more to the original.
very nice - excellent workmanship- I think we have all been there and a re-do or complete start again is often the best way
Barney
I hate to think about how many times I've had to rebuild part of a model. That's one reason why you guys should build my models for me. -- Russ

Hi modelers,
I continues my making with a new building.
This building inspiring of reality is composed of hollows bricks. it will house a mechanical workshop. It will be open on the front and the interior will be visible by the spectator
(https://i76.servimg.com/u/f76/17/32/73/87/brique10.jpg)
I started by engraving with the fine tip the bricks and painting them.

I correct the message.
Back when the old Military Modelling forum was still a thing, some British modellers had a thing about referring to paintbrushes as "hairy brushes". :)

Hi guys,

Trestles were not easy to build and weld because they are small. They are 7 millimeters high.

Gluing fibers on cardboard with wood glue
Balai 1.jpg
Gluing of the second sheet of cardboard. the two sheets of cardboard are held by masking tape and the fibers are sandwiched
Balai 2.jpg
For a good gluing of the cardboard and the fibers a clamp-joint is very practical

The fibres are cut almost to the ground

Then the cardboard is cut to the dimensions of the brush

Hi Joris,
Welcome here and thank you my friend !
You can open one post.
The atmosphere on this forum is very good, the modelers take their time and don't run after glory. There are some beautiful things to see.
Hi Sami.
I have gone back and looked at some of your posts, and the thing that stands out is the textures great.
I love how you use the English language, especially seeing it is not your native tongue it just makes you think in another layer.
All the best .
Kim
Hi Kim,
Thank you for your comment !
My english is not perfect but I try to write correctly. I sometimes use a translator when I can't remember a word.
It's harder for me to speak English than to write in English
Hi.
It humbles me when I visit a country like the Netherlands where English is common, also the Dutch will have either of both German and French.
Here we are at the bottom of the world and isolated,it is very uncommon to have another language.
Hi guys,
Kim, In France we have to learn two foreign languages at school. English in first language and German or spanish in second language.
Brass is not the material I am most comfortable with. But the modelers who make of templates on this forum inspiring me.
I made a template for the assembly of my half frame.
Brass holding plates are placed where not visible.
FSCN8194 - Copie.jpg
Brass is a less forgiving medium then plastic. However, the results are worth the effort. Your fixture is an excellent example of work holding during assembly. Remember to clean and flux parts prior to assembling, use the smallest amount of solder needed. I use a 1/32" diameter electronic solder when soft soldering as it can be cut into small pieces and placed with a toothpick and a dab of flux. If you get too much solder onto a joint an engraving tool can be used to remove the excess.
Practice, practice, and more practice makes a better modeler. As you work with brass you will get better and add a valuable talent to your toolkit.
Thank you Lawton for your comment and your tips. Your locomotiv is wonderfull.
I have a friend modeler who like working brass and who trained in mechanical manufacturing.
I learn a lot with him and he proceeds like you.
Yes practice and improve myselfYes.

Nice bit of workmanship - what make of spanners are they they look like they have a bit of bulk to them unlike many PE stuff which look so flat

Looks great! I especially like that tiny lamp.
Thank's for your comments !

A friend realized the globe of the lamp by stamping brass.
I glued the two electrical wires of the micro LED on a brass profile.
After I glued the globe with the micro LED and folded the brass profile. To finish I realized the ball joints with of Milliput.
For the micro LED it is another friend who gave me the idea.

The spanners feel like they have a little volume because they are in HO scale. The spanners are made by l'Obsidienne. He is a French craftsman.

I realize that this a work in progress, but the machine operator needs a wiping cloth in his back pocket, a coffee mug on the workbench, and an overflowing swarf can by the lathe.
On the other hand the walls have the beautiful texture of ceramic brick. How were the walls made?
Lawton, thank you for your advice ! I take note.
It will be difficult to reproduce a wipping cloth because the figure is already in place and glued. Especially since I work in 1/87
There is a tray with swarf under the machine.
Here three vidéos which I did on the bricks. Sorry it's in french.
Lamps:
As in another thread I've been playing with lamps the last couple of days.
Small, pre-wired, surface mount LEDs are useful of course. However they do tend to be rather obviously LEDs, which can be a bit of a negative depending on the situation.
In my case I wanted to model the bulb, so I encased the warm white LED in 5min epoxy. This had the added benefit of making it a bit more robust and improving the insulation, without adding greatly to the size.
But the best bit is that the resultant globe looks and performs far more like an incandescent bulb, being far less directional and appearing very realistic.
I'll post some pics later.
Ok Lawrence, I'll go see your work.
Hello !
I do not have too much time to post on the forum because I participate in an exhibition to Chambéry in France at the end of October.
I will present a party of my network under construction.
I'm working on some parts of layout to make it presentable.

Hi,
I exhibited at Savoie modélisme in France last week-end. Visitors liked my layout under construction. There were other beautiful models at the exhibition.
Here is a photo of my stand.

Looking sharp!
"Works in progress" displays are great conversation pieces, and I really enjoy them at exhibitions. Especially a high quality project like yours.
Russ, my layout was designed so that it was not too heavy and assembled quickly.
I took about 30 minutes to assemble the elements.
I came here a long time ago.
I felt the need to take a break in modeler. While waiting for the rest I post atmospheres pictures.
