Title: scale for 70 mm models.
Post by: 5thwheel on November 11, 2015, 04:30:00 PM
What is the scale for 70 mm models? I know that 70 mm = 2.755" full size but how does that break down into scale feet and inches? I understand for military models it is the height of a figure from the sole of the foot to the eyes. But what is the accepted measurement for that height, would it be 5"6"? Or how many mm or decimals = 1 scale linch?

I want to build a model vehicle so I need to knowhow to measure it out on my drawings.

Hi Bill

What does the 70mm represent is it 70mm per foot?  If so divide the full size measurement (in mm) by 4.35 and you will get the measurement for the model.

Read this page fully and all will be explained.

For the ones that don't want to read it all, just go to the scale chart at the bottom of the page and read that fully.

psst Bill ---- go to 1/24th and see what else is on that line.

Thanks Barney, that is where I am starting from, figure height. I needed to convert to build vehicles etc. My guess was that 1/24th was close.

Thank you Greenie (I can almost, usually, count on you to come through with an answer).

Thanks every one else who posted a reply.  Great forum full of smart people.

1/24th is a comfortable scale for me.  All my cast kits were produced in that scale and I have designed a scale chart that converts the fractions (minimum 1/16" = .0026) to the decimal equivalency up to 12 inches.

I'm a happy modeler now. Thanks all.

It would be easier to just build in 1/16th scale!
1/16" = 1"
