The space under the small roof under the drying towel is, of course for the chicken.

The backside wasn't elaborated because there is no chance to see it. Not even extending your arms with the camera

All trees were removed (none was glued in place yet) for working the scene).

My favorite is the photo with the clock or thermostat in the sky. -- ssuR

Bernhard

Pretty scene! Well observed and authentically implemented with a lot of atmosphere.

Knaht uoy ssuR.  ;D

I don't know if you know but the name of the small old village at the top in the corner is 'Thermostat-Sur-Mer' and will go to the house of my neighbors that are  the very best (and only) supporters i have.  ::)

Thank you Bernhard for those kind words.

The scene is not finished yet. Or, better said, it keeps changing as most of my builds do. One of the things i want to do is to make a bunch of new Birches but younger, with small diameter trunks so to fit better the scene. (Probably twice as much or more thinner trunks will sugest a bigger area to the viewer and if the total exceeds the 'spontaneous' tendency of the mind to count it will give an abstract sense of space which is the top effect one can expect.) But the row of big trees at the edge of the water will be all+++ back soon.

Balsa wood...

IMG_0021 (6) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

...a good thin knife and coarse sandpaper...

IMG_0023 (4) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

Yes, round but 'non troppo'...

IMG_0024 (3) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

IMG_0025 (3) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

IMG_0027 (3) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

This is surplus but, even if i don't know for what, i'll save it:

IMG_0028 (4) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

A paper mask while sanding will help to avoid the incredibly light bBalsa powder floating in the air to get into your lungs.

IMG_0029 (4) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

IMG_0030 (4) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

A bath of just a few seconds in with water dilutted black China ink will do the job. In this case also brown would work but i preffer black because there will be tiny sports visible...

IMG_0074 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

...because what you are makimng are small Birch logs...

IMG_0077 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

Now crackle paint. I like to use Schmincke's

IMG_0003 (10) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

IMG_0002 (12) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

but is important to keep turning the trunk with your finger while applying the paint.
A rough hard haired brush is my predilect for this work...

The only things you want is to avoid helical brush strokes: only circular strokes all parallel to each other and arround the wood BUT:

AVOID EVEN TRYING TO GET A SMOOTH SURFACE!

yOU GET THIS:

You get thus:

IMG_0079 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

Then you rasp a bit a piece of black dry pastel and make the top of your finger  dirty in it...

IMG_0082 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

Then you clean A BIT your finger and simply touch with the dirty tip, always IN LONGITUDINAL MOVEMENTS AND ONLY IN ONE DIRECTION the painted surface.
It takes many words to explain but this is what you want:

IMG_0085 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

IMG_0087 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

IMG_0091 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

I also touched with the finger tip dirty in green pastel SOME of the logs. One must avoid to do it in all logs, of course.

IMG_0089 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

In some places the crackle paint will break: GREAT!!! that is the reason why the black ink bath was done.

The rest doesn't need words:

IMG_0088 (2) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

IMG_0090 (3) by Daniel Osvaldo Caso, on Flickr

I forgot to give both ends of each logs a wood colour but later i did it, again, with the chosen colour and pastel stick.

Very nice and got atmosphere - well its sure is unusual!! but that's what makes this forum different love the texture /rust on the buckets and metal work
But I know one thing - I don't think I would like that crew in my back garden

But don't worry, they have other plans for your garden:

Of course, it's just a joke. These last photos were taken long before  the previous ones, whot  an improvised setting with other trees and stuff. But before the end of the year i'll play again with the smoke generator. (a very cheap one that costed something as 20 euro just before the pandemic started.)
