Gerd:

Those trucks are spectacular. I really enjoyed watching the video of the universal test.

Paul

Dear Paul,

stay tuned for the next progress update => Yesterday, the raw material for the frame arrived and today or tomorrow, I'll get the laser parts to finish the break rigging.

As my girldfriend has to work this weekend, I can spend some 15+ hours on the workbench... Maybe the Shay chassic will roll on tracks for the first time on late Sunday evening.

And by the way - YOUR Shay is also amazing. I've a lot of respect for those how are modeling in this stage of detail as you do. Normally, I use an easier way to make them belive that it's exact modeling, by using some tricks and fakes to reach this illusion. You will see what I mean when the frame will come together ;-)

Hello,

here's a small update of the weekends work. The frame was assembled and adds some 8 kg (16 lbs) more to the loco. Now the actual weight is 27,5 kg (60 lbs).

Well, most of the small stuff on the frame is still missing. Also that damn break stuff on the trucks as the laser parts are still on the way.

Wow, Gerd the trucks under the frame look great! What is the overall size?

regards Michael

Waldbahner

Hello,

@ Michael : the length of the frame is 1 meter (39 1/3 inch).

This week, I got the laser parts so the trucks has been finally finished yesterday by adding journal and gear covers and the break rigging. Here are some pictures of the new parts and a small clip showing the working break.

This evening, the trucks will be painted and I'll continue with the frame, adding the run board supports and maybe the endbeams.

I am an unreliable witness to my own existence.

In the corners of my mind there is a circus....

Thanks Gerd - appreciate the compliment on the 122 project.

Trucks are looking great with the brake rigging in place. Looks like the brake shoes are brass. Will you be able to replace the shoes as needed when worn? Looks like the brass is braised to their hangers.

Paul

Waldbahner

Hello all,

thanks for your comments ;-)

Paul, the break shoe is made from steel and I just added a ... from brass. Here's another view showing the breakshoe fabrication. The steel ring with 8 shoes is a laser cut part and was ordered. All parts are solft soldered so an exchange could be possible, but I think they will work for the locomotives live time.

Actually I', working on the frame, bringing the run borad supports into place and will start with the truss rods next. I just steped in for breakfast ;-)

I'll post more stuff later.

Waldbahner

So, here's a picture of yesterdays progress. The run board supports are in place and I'll start with the truss rods next.

Bye, Gerd

Good morning !!!

I had a lot of work to do the last weeks and finally, my girlfriend has won some nights in St.Moritz (swizerland) so the last weekend, I watched real trains during a trip with the Bernina-Express. Meanwhile it's 20 years ago that I've been there for the first time and tere are 10 years since my last visit at the Rhaetische Bahn.

But there was also some time for my Shay and a made small progress. I added the truss rods and startet with the endbeams and couplers.

This evening, my dad will come for our weekly work day and I hope we'll finish the endbeams.

Cheers, Gerd

Waldbahner

Hello gang,

mum had other plany for dad yesterday, so I worked alone on the Shay and finished the endbeams with couplers and foot steps. Now I'll add the break rigging from the trucks break lever to the break cylinder pistons next.

Cheers, Gerd

Waldbahner

Hello,

I added the break rigging on the frame and some missing girders to support the endbeams. Next chapters will be runboards, break cylinders and drive shafts.

Finally, I painted the frame black, but before, I made some photos outside in the garden. As the little folks have been on easter vacation somewhere in the caribean, I used my self for sice comparsion.

Cheers, Gerd
