Hi,
I am going through an artist's archive (Barnett Newman who died in 1970) and there is an image of this train. Can anyone help me identify it so that I can include the info in the catalogue?

Thanks in advance.

Narayan

Hi Narayan,

I'm quite sure it is this benzene electric railcar from former Königsberg (nowadays Kaliningrad). Looks like it is a manufacturer picture taken short before delivery to the railway line. The spreadsheet says that Walter Gropius has been involved in the design of the railcar.

Cheers,
Volker
I'll make it. If I have to fly the five feet like a birdie.

Thank you so much Volker. It totally makes sense that Newman would have a picture of a train designed by the Bauhaus. I can't tell you how grateful I am.

Wow a Bauhaus connection to railroads!? And a Barnett Newmann connection too! Cool. Thanks for posting

An interesting piece of rolling stock. But it deserves a more positive image!

Thanks for the printed image. Its so much easier to see.

Once the image and the text gets approved it will end up in this micro-site: Barnett Newman Studio Material
