It was a mental challange to build them... And then I had to build another one!
Happy I did it though, I'm really pleased with the result compared to eg resin castings.

Pelle

Well worth the effort!

If you are looking for a similiar project, how about this WWII german halftrack?

You would have to make another pair of Snowchains, though...

Yes, it was worth doing it but I don't think anyone can afford buying them, at least not from me.  ;)

I really like that prototype and its  worn look... And it's time to clean the desk for a new project. Maybe I should....
But then again, it has snow chains...

No, I think I'll wait a while before going down that path again.

Why would it need snow chains ? Aren't the tracks good enough ?

Not sure how a half-track actually steers. Is it totally through those front wheels or do the tracks work like on a tank? In any case .. I can tell you from experience that a tank handles on a muddy road much like a car does .. slipping and sliding at times. (12 years on M1/M1A1 series tanks)

A fantastic truck indeed with great details. Right up there with the very best! By the way welcome to the forum Pelle and where in Sweden do you live?

Anders

Ed; is it not just German thoroughness?
Or to help with the steering.

Thank you Anders, I'm happy to hear that, but I do think I have a lot to learn yet.
I live in Karlstad.

Ok .. found this via Wikipedia

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Half-track

The main advantage of half-tracks over wheeled vehicles is that the tracks reduce the vehicle's overall ground pressure and give it greater mobility over soft terrain like mud and snow, while they do not require the complex steering mechanisms of fully tracked vehicles, relying instead on their front wheels to direct the vehicle, augmented in some cases by track braking controlled by the steering wheel.

OK ,I see now that snow chains would be necessary on a half track .

Thanks for the WIKI link as it gave a couple of images worth saving . Both of which would be fun to model . The Bombardier looks like it is made of ply . Mmmm, if only there was a way of reproducing ply without too much effort ,

I think I prefer the look of the earlier one . The front of the later ones look like an eagle's beak

Great work sailor, totally credible , paint , worn wood, fake snow , I like it.   ;)

Nick:
You could use Aircraft ply which comes in thicknesses from 1/64" up.  The 1/64" scales out to 3/4" in "O" Scale, cuts with a utility knife and makes great sub-flooring, walls, and roof sheathing.

UvdR (Uschi von der Rosten) makes a wide variety of really nice plywood decals.
