Cranky -
I hope there will be photos of the diorama, and other highlites of the show.
Especially the BAD PENNY.

Not to turn this into a Model Car site, but since Carlo asked............
Here's the "Bad Penny" by Jim Fernandez, a Steam-Punk 1/25th-scale '49 Merc:

The copper finish on the plastic is amazing.  Jim sent the diorama (BP powering
a pipe organ) to me to bring to some of the East Coast model car shows:

For the In-Progress photos, I've taken the liberty of posting a link to Jim's
Fotki album.  This is quite a piece of work...........

We now return you to our regularly scheduled program.

Damn Cranky

It's the kind of model that one day when one of us wins the lotto and opens a model museum, this one will be a great showcase.

It's wonderful to be involved in a build like this, even if we are only watching over the builder's shoulder.

Hugely anxious to see the finished "conglomeration". Ken's assessment of the talent chosen is spot on.

Gordon Ferguson

Yes, yes very nice but can we please concentrate on the job in hand ..... lets see some progress on the stacker  ;D

Duly noted, Gordon.  I'm chomping to get back at it, too.
After Birmingham (the first weekend in March) I'll be back at it and won't stop 'til it's done!

Ken -
For a newbie here, what is this show in Birmingham, AL?
Is there online coverage?
Carlo

Ken Hamilton

Hi, Carlo:
I go back-and-forth between model cars and model railroading, with a lot of overlap.  The Birmingham (Alabama) show is an annual Model Car "Popular Vote" show/contest. It usually attracts about 250 models and the awards include the "Top 15" (the 15 models with the highest popular vote), "Best in Show" (highest vote getter) plus a couple of private awards.  There's no on-line covereage per se, but I (and many others) post photos in Fotki, etc. or on the various mode car forums.  Here's my limited-coverage album from last year, which includes a couple of side trips along the way:

FYI: The largest model car show in the country is "NNL East", held in Parsippany, NJ.  It attracts about 1800 models annually.  Here's a small taste of that show:

Feel free to browse through any of my other albums as well..............

We interrupt the serious business of model building on this Forum to interject the finished
"Group Project Diorama" that started this thread.  As you may recall, Virgil "Damn Cranky"
Suarez build a truck-display diorama and roped five other auto diorama builders into adding
something to it and passing it along to the next guy.  No restrictions or rules.
Here's how it started:

And here's how it ended up:

Jim Fernandez in Utah was the first one to get the diorama, and he came up with the low-budget,
horror, B-movie idea that the rest of us ran with, and added additional details to, as it went along.

Okay - it's not the most serious model ever built, but it sure was fun!
Sorry for being so OT, but I thought some of you might get a chuckle out of this......

Oh - if you'd like to see more pictures, here's a link:

That's great...not even anywhere close to what I could even have thought. very creative. I like the way virgils base was used as a literal part of a larger scene....definitely creative thinking.

BTW... I don't think it's OT at all. Good, creative and interesting modelbuilding is never OT,.... and if anyone here bitches about it....you can point out the train tracks in the fake backdrop image  ;D ;D)

Thanks for posting this.
