Thought I'd start a reference/photo and resources discussion/thread on this since Gordon is doing such a build, kit manufacturers are bringing out more and more vehicles in 1/48, and it may have interest for those doing modern day industrial type operations, those that simply want something different to build. This one is on Cyprus. M

Well as I seem to have some tenuous link to this thread, have a look at this link ( sorry Nick seem to have jumped the que, as I followed your lead) http://paulanderson.pikfu.net/set1786798/not all military conversions but the first 2 are ex British army and further down there are Scammells, Fodens & American Diamond T conversions into civilian heavy haulage. If you go back to the home page you will see there is a whole list of North West England Transport companies most of which started up with ex military vehicles

I've mentioned these books before , but you obviously all need reminding . Frituur Zorro volumes 1 and 2 are solely devoted to military vehicles converted to civilian use . The picture I've included is my favourite from volume 2 , and is an Allis Chalmers M4 High Speed Tractor converted to a pipe layer .It has been added to my list of possible projects . If you like Canadian Military Pattern Fords and Chevrolets this site has got loads , www.oldcmp.net . Mostly cranes . Nick

For those that do 1/48 and don't want to undertake one of Gordons grueling fantastical scratch builds,...yet want a steam roller.... This resin model would make a good start platform. Its from a company called Belcher Bits, and is patterned after one captured from the Japanese on Guadalcanal. Price runs around $30. M
