Wesley,
The cables are actually going up.
They would go from the loaders to the boom for loading & unloading the logs.
And allow the loader to move the boom left/right.
They are actually just lengths of music wire to "simulate" the cables as this was not a real set up.

I hope to build a real set up complete with hay rack boom and all.
The eventual scene would allow me to load logs on the layout and have a place to show off all of my donkeys.
