I want to nickel or chrome plate some plastic and resin parts, but I've never done this before.  Can somebody recommend a good reference on the subject?

Thanks
Dave

Jay Lenno showed a new technique that uses a liquid and you pour it on.

http://www.catalysts.basf.com/Main/surface_technologies/hard_chrome_replacement.be

Go to the Jay Leno's garage website and search for chrome, it will bring up a link that shows a video on it with Jay. Not actually pour on, they spray it in the video but it looks like it could be poured because there is a lot of runoff and no runs in the product. Loked like cool stuff for the interior stuff you need rechromed.

Here is the thread I got the info from.

Dave,

the Back Shop used to do it http://home.onemain.com/~thebackshop/plastics.htm

I don't know who took over this part of the bussiness.  The Porter shown belongs to Jerry Kitts, maybe he has some more info.

Check MicroMark.  I received the latest catalogue today and on page 30 is an add for electroplating small parts at home

NO...that is not what happened there (I know this fo a fact)....the photo shows a BRASS loco...not a plated plastic loco. What happened it that dave used the plastic parts as lost casting originals, to make brass parts from....which were then built up into this loco.

Expert no....choice words, yes...but in this case I just had the opportunity to see some of the resulting brass pieces from Jerry Kitts.

   Dave,

for resin or plastic parts, cover the complete surface first with conductive paint. than you can use MicroMarks system or the Conrad system.
See also remark in the translation from Design-HSB.
