The toilet car

While locked out of the workshop due to a remodel project, I managed to smuggle a few tools into the house when the wife wasn't home, and was able to do a small project. Marc had posted a photo of a mine toilet car, and I found a plan in the Gazette. Here is a pic of the car to date, unfinished until I can access my spray booth.

Ooops! That was the picture Marc posted, here is the model, in 3/8n18: A wooden block was cut to size, and styrene was laminated to the block with CA. Grandt .032 rivets were used, and bits of wire, etc. An assembly jig was created to assemble the "running gear", made from brass strip, annealed, formed, and tempered, then assembled with CA.

   Hello underground farmers, three pics of mine ore buckets I cobbled up out of resin wood barrels.  Drilled out center with ever larger drill bits.  Starting dead center is a must.  Styrene attachment pieces and bent wire for bail.  Buckets are 2' x 3' and 18" x 2'.  Mine scene shows source barrels and finished buckets.  This is a small early goldmine diorama I have decided to do to get me out of modeling doldrums this winter.  I have some things I want to try scenery wise on this dio. since I have never done a dio. or any other type of scenery.  Will keep you posted on relative success or failure.  Comments always appreciated.

A very creative solution in using the barrels...would not have thought of that, and making that shape from scratch would be a real pain in the keister. Please keep the posts on your progress coming. How about some pics/info of the structures?

I think the car came out beautifully. Can't wairt to see it in paint.  Would also be interesting to see a scale comparison with yours and Gordons. I may have to take some time out from the Armor to build a rolling toilet also ......Anyone have a 3/8" scale V-Tip they want to unload?

If either of you need specific info/scans on some of the old mining equipment parts and accessories let me know. I have several equipment and parts catalogs from late 1890-1930 that show/list a very large amount of equipment in photos and catalog cuts.
